4 Benefits of Dental Implants

dentist explaining a dental implant

Are you missing a tooth? Perhaps you have a friend or family member who has to have a tooth pulled and is concerned about how it may look to others. We know how frustrating that situation can be for people, and we're here to help. At Lovett Dental, we have several options for replacing lost teeth, such as getting a dental implant. For more information about dental implants in Houston, call us at 832-804-7427.

The 4 Benefits of Dental Implants

There are many benefits to opting for a dental implant rather than a dental bridge or denture. For one thing, you're replacing just the teeth that are missing, so you won't be making changes to the teeth surrounding them.

With bridges and other kinds of replacements, you may have to have other teeth crowned and manipulated. With an implant, that's not the case. An implant is drilled into the jaw, so it works and acts exactly like a real tooth.

What Are the Major Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants, particularly single-tooth implants, replace missing teeth. The four main benefits of replacing teeth in this way include:

  • Saving you time since a single implant can usually be placed the same day as an extraction
  • Being less damaging or invasive than other treatment options, like dentures (which cover the roof of the mouth) or bridges, which require support from nearby teeth
  • Preserving bone density and volume by stimulating the jaw bone
  • Not having to worry about removing the implant at night, like some dentures, or having it replaced in the future , which is possible with crowns and bridges,

There are a few kinds of dental implants. These include hybrid fixed dentures, snap-on overdentures, and single-tooth implants.

Hybrid fixed dentures are also known as "all-on-four" or Teeth In One Day. These use implanted screws to attach dentures in the mouth permanently. Four to six implants are used to secure the denture.

Snap-on overdentures are secured on titanium posts. This denture can be removed if needed, which makes it easier to clean them and the gums when necessary.

Our final option is the single-tooth replacement implant. This is a tooth that goes onto a titanium rod that is drilled into the jawbone. The rod is stable, and the tooth works the same as any other tooth in the mouth.

If You're Missing Teeth, Consider Dental Implants

If you're missing teeth, dental implants may be a good option. Your dentist will walk you through all parts of the process, including:

  • Consultation: We require a consultation to go over the current state of the teeth and jaws and to determine if you're a candidate for treatment
  • Surgery: During this process, you'll be sedated and may sleep through the process. At the end, temporary teeth will be in place while bone healing occurs.
  • Two-week post-op visits. After surgery, a follow-up visit helps make sure all sutures are removed or dissolved. They will also check the dental implant's stability and adjust any temporary teeth.
  • A longer-term visit. After 10 to 12 weeks, you'll have the final impression taken for the new permanent denture or implant.
  • Final installation. Two to four weeks following the last follow-up, the new, permanent implant will be installed.

If you have any questions about the process, please reach out to our team today. We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
